Today’s aligning is all about water. We can’t get more life affirming than that. Without water none of us would be here. We know water carries energy, so let’s appreciate water like it deserves to be appreciated. One of my favorite things to do when I’m stressed is float in water. No matter what’s going on in the world, I feel fully connected when I can just lie there and float. Just writing about it makes me want to go do it.
One of the things I’ve struggled with is drinking enough water throughout the day. Yet, when I sit in appreciation for water, I have to drink. It’s such an interesting thing. Sometimes when we are going through challenges, it’s important to have little things to find joy in. Water is one of those things that give me space from my day.
One of my favorite lessons I got from a sponsor I had in Al-Anon was that the instructions to get out of the box are on the outside of the box. This means when we are caught up in the turmoil in our own minds, we won’t be able to find our way out of it. We just need to step out of it, and see the challenges in our lives like an outside observer. Finding things like appreciating water help remove me from being inside the box. Once I’m out, I get a better view of what is really happening.

Keep it simple. Sometimes we just need to focus on the simple, and that’s the point of today’s aligning. You can’t get it wrong. Even if all you do is wash your hands today, please wash your hands today, just pay attention to the smells, the feeling, the temperature, the bubbles, all of it. If all you can do is appreciate water flushing in a toilet, do that. The simple things matter.
